Child sickness

Every effort is made to minimize the spread of illness, but it is not possible to prevent all sickness in early education and care services. There may be times when you need to keep your child away from the center due to illness.

At Vale Village Childcare, we prioritize the well-being of your child as well as the well-being of other children and staff at the center. It is important for staff to follow the center’s policy for excluding ill children to protect the health of all children. Please ensure that you do not bring your child to the center if they are unwell, in order to protect other children, families, and staff.

This includes contagious illnesses such as chicken pox, measles, severe colds with thick yellow/green runny noses, diarrhea, vomiting, conjunctivitis, head lice, or fever.

Children must stay at home when they are ill until their condition has improved and they do not pose a risk to other children at the center. If there is an outbreak of an infectious disease, parents will be notified via email or Kindyhub, and the illness and infection log will be available for parents to access at any time.

If your child shows signs of being unwell, staff will make them comfortable and notify the parent or guardian to come and collect them as soon as possible. Staff will also fill out an Illness Record to document what occurred during the child’s care.

A medical certificate will be required upon the child’s return to the center. If urgent medical attention is needed, staff will assess the situation and notify the child’s parent or guardian. Please inform the center director if your child has a medical condition, allergy, or asthma.

We will provide you with our policy on medical conditions and ask that you complete a medical management plan with your general practitioner. All staff are trained on the necessary procedures to follow in case of an incident.
