Sign Language

At Vale Village Childcare, we offer Auslan, also known as sign language. Sign language has become a valuable communication tool for parents, families, and childcare workers across Australia.

Being able to respond to a child’s needs reduces stress for children and makes the job of a childcare worker more positive. Learning sign language is not only fun for children, but it also provides them with a useful tool for communication in the future.

Actions in children’s songs like “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” make it easier for children to understand. Research has shown that babies can learn simple sign expressions as early as 6 months of age, and these children tend to develop oral language earlier.

At Vale Village Childcare, we use Auslan, the national sign language of Australia, which allows parents and professionals to utilize an established set of signs. Using a standard sign system ensures effective communication among all caregivers and children, and allows parents to be involved as well.
